Portions of these may appear to be a travel blog or book, but also consider these writings as a journey into one’s soul, including the souls of our ancestors – we wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for them! Finding evidence of them is a wonderful adventure.
And as the Native Americans say, our ancestors include plants, animals, rocks and the land and waters of our world.
Journeys are not just to see the outside world, which is a wonderful place, but to explore one’s inner world as well, and our connection to the bigger picture. Ponder the traces of where we came from and consider what we leave behind. We are stardust!
Consider gigantic mountains, woods, wilderness that one might find when traveling: These could be considered headstones in their own right, evidence of the ancestors of geology, ecology, the earth, the universe.
I find myself when I travel. Or, pieces of myself. And sometimes I find evidence of my ancestors – like homesteads or headstones of my direct ascendants (those who had to have lived in order for me to be here), or my distant cousins that added color to my tree (those who weren’t necessary for me to be here, like my 7th cousin 3 times removed – Franklin Delano Roosevelt).
For this book I will try to break up travel stories with chapters and sections on other reflections, like genealogy, relationships, psychology, gender issues, mental health, addiction, personal development, aging, morality, social work, families, community, mortality, spirituality, travel, and more.
