9/7/2024 Saturday –
I’m not finished driving yet today, as I’m writing at the Visitor’s Centre in Whitehorse, Yukon, Canada where they have Wi-Fi. (Whitehorse is between Rancheria Falls rest area from the previous night’s camp, and “Camp Under the Power Lines” campsite.)
Whitehorse is a pretty good size town of 32,000, which has a hospital, and is the capital of Yukon.
I hope to reach Alaska tomorrow, well see … not done with today yet … I spent a couple of hours in Whitehorse, Yukon, CA

I found this rack of canoes at Yukon Wide Adventures and met a couple of staff who were cleaning up their boats after returning from a guided trip they had just completed. New friends!

Roadside informational signs enlightened me, this one about the Continental Divide, the watersheds for the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans, and the watershed that flowed into the Artic Ocean to the north (this sign was before reaching Whitehorse). See if you can enlarge it to read the details if you’re interested:

At the Alaska Highway mile post 1083 was an information sign about this area of Destruction Bay and the heroic efforts in 1942 to build the Alcan (later named Alaskan) Highway at the time of World War II:

I left Rancheria Falls rest area about 7:50 AM and arrived at the “Camp Under the Power Lines” about 7 PM after spending a couple of hours in Whitehorse. This camp was at a random dirt road off into the woods on relatively flat ground and found large power lines with enough room to turn the trailer around under. I would often walk out a road to see about conditions for the truck and trailer to get through.
This not-so-beautiful Camp Under the Power Lines was between Champagne and Canyon, Yukon.
Isn’t that a romantic name – “Camp Under the Power Lines”? Mary would have loved it! (Sorry I don’t have a photo of that for you.)
Drove 259 miles today by the end of the day.
